What: Blues dancing is an umbrella term for a family of historical and modern dances done to blues music. Rooted in African movement, blues dance places a high value on improvisation, rhythm, and polyrhythm.

Marina has been involved in blues dance for past six years. She took classes from acclaimed blues dance instructors who preserve and share the blues traditions and aesthetics. Last summer Marina won first prize for choreography at Sweet Molasses Blues festival in Boston with her solo blues choreography: https://youtu.be/1iYQ1V1T8N4

In this class, Marina will give an introduction to blues dancing. You will cover basic step, partner connection, and musicality. There are many ways to grow in this dance. Moreover, awareness of your body and musicality skills will be transferable to other styles of dancing.

No prior experience required, open to all ages.

Please bring a pair of clean indoor shoes. Preferably something flat and without grip. If you don't have anything, socks will be fine.

We can provide you with a dance partner if you need one. We do encourage rotating partners throughout the class. If you are attending this course with a partner, feel free to not rotate. We totally understand.

There will be practice time before and after class. Feel free to stick around and dance with us!
